det.social is a Mastodon server hosted by the German media collective Unterhaltungsfernsehen Ehrenfeld. It's a niche social media community, not a commercial business. Looking for det.social reviews? Our analysis shows a site that takes security seriously: modern encryption, strong browser protections, and no history of abuse. The operators identify themselves on an About page — a good sign for a community-run instance. Privacy and terms pages are in place, which is more than many hobby sites bother with. If you're wondering "is det.social a scam?", there's no evidence of that here. The only real gap is the lack of a direct contact form or visible social media links, but that's common for small Mastodon communities. For a free social platform run by a known group, this is a trustworthy place to set up an account.
In plain English
det.social is a Mastodon server run by a known community group, and it checks out as a legitimate, well-configured site. It has solid security, a transparent About page, and a clean history. The lack of contact info is typical for this type of project, so there's no reason to distrust it.
Where the score comes from
Strong security posture with modern encryption, browser protections, and no blacklist or malware flags. This is above average for a community-run social media instance.
The site's ownership is partially transparent: an About page names the team behind it, but WHOIS data is unavailable due to the .social TLD. That's typical and not a red flag here.
Clean record across blacklists and threat databases, with a three-year web history. A modest Tranco rank suggests it's known but not widely active, which is expected for a niche social community.
An About page clearly identifies the operators, but there's no direct contact form or social media links. For a hobby-run Mastodon server that's reasonable, though more contact options would be better.
Privacy policy and terms of service are present, which is more than many small hobby sites provide. Cookie consent isn't obvious, but that's not a legal requirement for non-commercial operations.
Reliable hosting on a reputable provider, with proper email authentication (SPF and DMARC) to prevent spoofing. DNSSEC is missing, but that's common and not a significant risk here.
